Vanilla Essential Oil is an essential oil that is extracted through hexane extraction from the beans of the tropical climbing orchid. This happens after a lengthy drying process, which causes the beans to ferment, turn black and acquire the typical vanilla scent. The amount of oil that can be obtained is very low, making this essential oil quite expensive. There is also synthetic vanilla oil. The main component is vanillin: a white, powdery crystal that provides the strong vanilla scent.
Where is it from?
The tropical climbing orchid, or Planifolia Vanilla, originates from Mexico but is now mainly grown in Madagascar.
