What is Citronella Essential Oil?
Citronella Essential Oil is obtained through steam distillation of the Cymbopogon Nardus. This fragrant grass is a member of the Lemongrass family. It grows in clumps with long blades of grass and owes its name to the fresh scent of lemon.
Where is it from?
The Cymbopogon Nardus is mainly found in Asian countries. Citronella Essential Oil mainly uses the Ceylon or Java variety.

How do you use Citronella Essential Oil?
As aromatherapy
Add 8 drops of Citronella Essential Oil and 5 drops of Geranium Essential Oil to the water reservoir of a diffuser.
As an insect repellent
Place a small layer of water in the bowl of an aroma burner and add 10 to 15 drops of Citronella Essential Oil. Light a tea light and place it in the aroma burner.
Massage and/or skin oil
Mix 5 to 8 drops of Citronella Essential Oil with 50 ml of base oil (e.g. Argan Oil) and massage into the skin.
In Bath
Add 10 drops of Citronella Essential Oil and 6 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil to a heated bath.
As an ingredient for DIY cosmetics
During the oiling phase, add a few drops of Citronella Essential Oil.
As a cleaning agent
Place 500 ml of water, 200 ml of vinegar, 50 ml of alcohol (90%), 40 drops of Citronella Essential Oil and 20 drops of Bergamot Essential Oil in a spray bottle and shake well before use.
NB! Citronella Essential Oil can cause phototoxicity in high concentrations.
Use a maximum of 0.6% on 100 ml of carrier oil.
