What is Henna Powder?

Henna penetrates into all the upper layers of your hair shaft. The Lawsonia molecules (which provide the color) mix with the keratin in your hair, which is why this is a permanent dye method. Regular hair dye leaves a film on your hair shaft In addition, penetrating the henna molecules into the upper layers of your hair shaft has some nice effects. Your hair becomes fuller, smoother and soft as silk. In addition, dandruff disappears with regular use and it is good to make your hair stronger because it also penetrates to your hair roots if you manage to get the henna properly on your scalp. Henna therefore provides a beautiful red/orange color (depending on the color of hair to which the henna is applied) and resilient, vital, shiny and full hair. Henna is therefore suitable for every hair type.

How much coloring paste should I make?

These are averages and vary slightly depending on the length and thickness of the hair, but 70 to 100 grams of henna is sufficient for short hair. Between 150 and 250 grams is sufficient for hair up to the shoulder. 300 to 400 grams is sufficient for hair past the shoulders and you need about 500 grams of henna powder for hair down to the waist. Very long hair may require more paste.

What color can I expect?

With plant-based hair dye, the original hair color has a great influence on the result. We therefore recommend dyeing a test strand of hair. It is never completely certain what the color of your hair will be. This depends on the color of your own hair, where the henna comes from, the quality of the henna, how long you leave the henna in your hair and whether you prepare it correctly.

Instructions for use henna powder as natural hair coloring:

What do you need:

• Henna powder
• Lemon juice or vinegar
• Glass or stone container (not metal)
• Wooden or plastic stirring stick or spoon
• Gloves
• Old clothes/towels
• Cling film
• Vaseline or other greasy cream such as shea butter
• Hair clips if necessary

Roadmap:

1. Spoon the desired amount of Henna powder into the glass or stone container.
2. Add a dash of vinegar or lemon juice. The acid releases the color from the henna powder.
3. Now slowly add lukewarm to hot water to the mixture and stir it with a plastic or wooden stick/spoon until a smooth mass.
4. Leave this paste covered for a while, preferably without covering with aluminum foil. It can take up to 12 hours for the color from the henna to develop. – If the Henna paste is dark brown, it is ready for use. Mix well again.
5. Use Vaseline or other greasy cream to apply to the areas of skin where henna should not accidentally get into the skin. Be careful not to rub your hairline with Vaseline.
6. Place the old towels on the floor and/or other places where you want the henna not to stain.
7. Put on the gloves and then place a towel around your shoulders and neck.
8. If desired, you can use the hair clips to divide the hair into sections.
9. Apply the color paste to clean hair, without gel, conditioner or hairspray.
10. Comb your hair well and apply the henna mixture into your hair with your hands, strand by strand. Start at your roots and then apply it over your section of hair. Continue this way until your entire hair is covered with the henna. You need to cover your hair in such a way that you can barely see any hair, so apply the henna mixture thickly.
11. If your hair is long, secure it with a few hair clips after applying the conditioner and then cover your hair with cling film.
12. Remove residues of the coloring paste from the skin.
13. Let it work for about 2-4 hours.
14. Then rinse thoroughly with plenty of lukewarm water and, if necessary, wash the hair once with a very mild shampoo.
15. It is best to use a (dark) colored towel to dry the hair.
