What is Tagetes Essential Oil?

Tagetes, also called Tagetes, is an herb with yellow, orange and/or red flowers. The herb is widely cultivated in India. The flowers are used there at religious gatherings and festive occasions. In other parts of the world the herb is mainly grown for the production of oil for perfumes, among other things. Tagetes Essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the flowers.

Where is it from?

Tagetes is originally from Mexico and South America, but can now be found in the wild worldwide.

How do you use Tagetes Essential Oil?

As aromatherapy

Add 2 drops of Tagetes Essential Oil and 4 drops of Orange Essential Oil to the water reservoir of a diffuser. Turn this on to put you in a happy mood.

As a foot bath

Mix 2 drops of Tagetes Essential Oil and 4 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil with 1 tablespoon of dead sea salt. Add this to a tub with 2 liters of warm water and soak your feet in it for 10 minutes to tackle foot problems such as athlete’s foot and calluses.

As body butter

Mix 5 drops of Tagetes Essential Oil with 150 grams of Shea butter . Apply this to your body after showering to soften the skin. NB! Tagetes Essential Oil is phototoxic and may cause skin irritation. Use in moderation. Avoid use during pregnancy.
