Ylang Ylang Essential Oil, like Cananga Essential Oil, is extracted by steam distillation from the freshly picked flowers of the tropical Cananga odorata tree.Unlike Cananga Essential Oil, which is extracted in its entirety, Ylang Ylang Essential Oil is extracted in fractions, which makes the oil smell a lot stronger.Ylang Ylang Essential Oil has a number of different grades that are extracted through interruptions in the distillation process. The flowers are first distilled for about 1.5 hours → Ylang Ylang Extra. Then the distillation process is resumed for about 3 hours → Ylang Ylang I.Then the steam distillation is continued again for about 5 hours → Ylang Ylang 2. Finally, the process is resumed for about 10 to 20 hours → Ylang Ylang 3.To extract Ylang Ylang Complete, the flowers are distilled continuously for 10 to 20 hours, which gives the oil a rich and fruity scent.
Where is it from?
The Cananga odorata originally comes from East Asia, but nowadays also grows in the Comoros, Madagascar, Fiji and other very warm and humid areas.
